Benefit Subsidy Officers

What we are looking for

  • Ideally you will have at least 5 years current/recent experience with a Local Authority, remote processing service or agency.
  • Experience in maximising benefit subsidy for a Local Authority whilst ensuring financial totals remain in balance.
  • Experience in providing relevant information to senior managers to enable them to evaluate financial performance, whilst making the relevant calculations for benefits subsidy.
  • Experience in the timely and accurate completion, submission and verification of returned subsidy claims by internal and external audit.
  • Experience in completing external auditor workbooks within required timescales and explain benefit calculations and payments that the authority will be claiming subsidy for.
  • Experience in the completion and submission of all returns relating to the annual Discretionary Housing Payment claim.
  • Experience in the production and examine regular quality control and exception reports to protect the Benefit Service from loss of subsidy 
  • Experience in reconciling benefit overpayment recovery. Scrutinising information relating to benefit overpayments from reports and government extracts, reporting any relevant information to the Revenues & Benefits manager as and when required. 
  • Experience in monitoring potential areas of subsidy loss and take appropriate action to minimise any risk to the authority, including the correction of data.
  • Experience in monitoring the level of subsidy for the current year on all incentive and penalty areas and report any areas where the rise is above acceptable levels.
  • Experience in monitoring financial output from the benefits system to ensure data for subsidy purposes balances and evidence is available for audit purposes.  
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills when dealing with inbound and outbound customer or other outside agency enquiries by phone, letter, or email.
  • Demonstrate that you have strong communication skills and the ability to show an understanding of working within the constraints of legislation.
  • A good knowledge of general data protection.
  • Ideally live within reasonable travelling distance to either of our offices at Skipton or Warrington, however this is not essential.
