Business Support Officer - part time

Maidstone Borough Council

Maidstone – Great people, great place, great opportunity

A vacancy has arisen for a Business Support Officer in Mid Kent Revenues and Benefits Partnership (MKS). MKS is an innovative shared service model and the Business Support function is delivered on behalf of Maidstone Borough Council and Tunbridge Wells Borough Council.

You will be expected to undertake quality assurance checks on benefit decisions, consider appeals, discretionary housing payments and assist with the completion of the councils benefit grant claim.   A detailed knowledge of the benefit regulations and working knowledge of the benefit system are essential.  Experience of using the Academy benefits system would be an advantage.

The position is part time (17 hours per week), offered on a permanent contract working from our office in Maidstone. The successful candidate must be flexible as you will be required to attend and present at Tribunal Hearings.

This role is customer-facing and the ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is an essential element of the role.

Maidstone Borough Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults, and expects all employee and volunteers to share this commitment.

The Council considers that the successful applicant will have access to young people and/or vulnerable adults and it is a requirement under The Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 that you hold an enhanced disclosure and barring scheme check. Upon successful appointment, you will be required to provide evidence of an enhanced DBS check if you subscribe to the DBS Update Service or complete the process to obtain a DBS check.

This is a part time position on a permanent contract.
