Debt Recovery Officer (Appeals & Overpayments)

Cannock Chase Council

Cannock Chase Council and Stafford Borough Council are committed to achieving excellence in the processing of Housing Benefit and Local Council Tax Support claims together with the recovery of overpaid benefit, from their shared Benefits Service.

The following vacancy has arisen for a candidate with the appropriate skills, experience and commitment based across the Cannock Chase and Stafford Borough areas. The main duties of the role will focus on the recovery of overpaid amounts of housing benefit and local council tax support.

You must have verbal and written communication skills to be able to deal with face-to-face and telephone enquiries and all forms of written communication in an efficient, polite and sensitive manner. You should also be able to use a computer to input and retrieve data.

You should be able to work accurately and to tight deadlines and be a committed team player who can also work on their own initiative to complete tasks and achieve targets. You must also hold GCSE’s at Grade C or above in English and Mathematics or be able to demonstrate equivalent vocational experience.

Previous experience of working in Local Authority Benefits administration and working with Civica Housing Benefits and Council Tax Benefits Software would be desirable.
