Following a recent Service Review and restructure of the System Support Team we have a vacancy for a System Support Team Leader

How you’ll make a difference

Our Finance and System Controls team play a key part in supporting many of the software systems used within the Finance & Customer Services divisions.  The team provide frontline system security and support, and carry out key system and financial reconciliations and reporting processes.

As Team leader of the Controls team, you will be responsible for ensuring quality assurance and high performance whilst developing good practice and service improvements

You’ll be supported by a Technical Controls officer overseeing the day-to-day management & performance of the team consisting of a System Controls Support Officer and 8 Controls Officers  

Across the wider system support team, you will be working closely with the Financial Systems Team leader and Assistant Support Manager to ensure the System Support Team delivers on key projects and deadlines developing a cohesive working relationship between the two teams.

We are looking for an individual with all the key qualities for this role that we can work with you to build on. You will receive training as required.  

Main Duties

  • Provision of day to day management and supervision of team undertaking regular supervisory meetings with officers in accordance with HR policies and procedures.  They will support the Assistant Manager in recruitment activities for the section.
  • Lead on relevant end of year processing across the Revenues and Welfare service coordinating data releases, testing and live updating which in turn requires coordinating resources, both internal and with software suppliers to meet both council and statutory timescales.
  • Lead officer across Revenues and Welfare system development, including staying abreast of wider technical developments and options and offering advice and guidance to all projects/systems that impact on these systems or that affect income allocation as well as the set-up of documentation to improve service delivery.
  • Lead officer on the testing and agreeing live implementation of system upgrades.
  • Collation of statistical information and information on the effectiveness of the service.
  • Relevant point of contact for the section covering internal and external audit liaison.
  • Play an integral role in ensuring compliance with all relevant service level agreements and agreeing and reporting performance against targets to ensure high standards of customer care and operational efficiency.
  • Project management - development and implementation of service improvement plans and wider improvement projects.

Selection Criteria - What we need from you:

  • The post holder will have a relevant degree and/or professional qualification or have equivalent relevant experience.
  • The post holder will be able to demonstrate a high level of skill and knowledge directly related to the role with proven experience in a similar position
  • The post holder must be able to demonstrate well-developed interpersonal and influencing skills and be able to build relationships and communicate effectively with colleagues and customers
  • The post holder will have experience/be able to assist in the management and development of a team
  • The post holder will have good numeracy, literacy, reasoning and report writing skills and be able to understand and interpret complex data sets and recommend solutions and improvements
  • The post holder must be able to work to deadlines, demonstrate a flexible approach ensuring priorities are identified and required outcomes and timetables are achieved. 
  • The post holder must be a logical thinker.
  • The post holder will have a good level of general IT skills and experience of using and understanding software packages. 
  • Experience of support for the following IT applications is desirable Northgate systems including Iworld, LWP, blue badge information system, Information@work electronic document management system.

Salary range / grade: Hay6 - £33,782 - £36,922
